Speaker series aimed to inspire & empower future women entrepreneurs & leaders
EPICentre is excited to be a recipient of the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Canada Public Diplomacy Grants Program. The grant will enable EPICentre to continue to promote a sustainable economic recovery and to close the gender disparity in entrepreneurship by inspiring and encouraging diverse young Canadian women to consider entrepreneurship as a career path and providing a robust support system to help Canadian women entrepreneurs launch and grow their businesses.
Over the next year, EPICentre will deliver four SpeakHER sessions and two in-person networking events featuring up to ten American women entrepreneurs from different sectors. EPICentre will also connect up to 16 women entrepreneurs from the Windsor Essex region with American women mentors and advisors, providing robust mentorship to help them launch and grow their businesses. The first SpeakHER session has been confirmed for January 26, 2024.
The initiative aims to inspire, educate, and connect the leaders of the next generation of women entrepreneurs. Attendees will have the opportunity to glean insights from the personal stories and experiences of accomplished American women founders who have navigated the challenges and triumphs of a journey in entrepreneurship. The project is designed to keep up the momentum of the Entrepreneurship SpeakHER Series initially launched in January 2022 with generous support from the U.S. Consulate General Toronto. It has successfully created a platform for post-secondary students to explore entrepreneurship as a viable career path, engaging over 770 attendees through eight live and recorded sessions.

“The economic relationship between the United States and Canada is not a zero-sum game. It is synergistic and can create opportunities in North America and beyond. As we make real progress in building towards an inclusive economic recovery, the U.S. Consulate General in Toronto, together with our Canadian partners, will continue to support women entrepreneurs. We hope the SpeakHER Series will encourage and empower young Canadian women to pursue entrepreneurship and connect with American mentors to launch their business plans.” – Baxter Hunt, U.S. Consul General, U.S. Consulate General in Toronto.
“We are extremely grateful for the partnership with the U.S. Consulate General in Toronto to inspire young Canadian women to create their own future through entrepreneurship. As an entrepreneurship centre and a business incubator located within several meters of the business US-Canada border crossing, EPICentre has the capability to influence the growth of economy in the Windsor-Essex region by leveraging the expertise and network of women entrepreneurs in the U.S.” Wen Teoh, Director, EPICentre, University of Windsor.
