The U.S. Consulate General in Toronto and the University of Windsor EPICentre are pleased to form a bi-national partnership and introduce women, post-secondary students of Windsor Essex County, to American entrepreneur speakers in a virtual series. Supported by the U.S Consulate General, this partnership aims to inspire and empower students to discover endless opportunities within the realm of entrepreneurship as well as strengthen the ties between Canada and the United States to form a close-knit entrepreneurial network for women.
The series will run in both Winter and Fall 2022 with eight sessions in total and two virtual networking events. The series will be free for participants to attend and provide an equal and open platform for each attendee to learn, engage, and network.
Each speaker session will focus on a particular industry sector and follow an interview-style allowing each female founder to speak about their entrepreneurial journey, lessons learned, and ways in which they were resilient in the face of challenges. The series will cover the following industry sectors: ICT (Information, Communication, Technology), Fitness, Service, Healthcare, Food, Arts, Social Enterprise, and Engineering.
The Entrepreneurship SpeakHER series will be an outlet for post-secondary students in our region to foster inspiration by listening and engaging with American female entrepreneurs who are industry leaders. Students will also have the chance to increase their network on an international level with entrepreneurial connections in the United States. Finally, after a difficult period in our world, this series will provide a new perspective into what avenues are available to students when considering a future in entrepreneurship. In light of COVID-19 restrictions, the SpeakHER series will be conducted virtually.

“We strongly believe that to Build Back Better, we must support women entrepreneurs through opportunities that boost their leadership skills, expand their networks and strengthen cross-border business ties. Together with our Canadian partners, we are investing in women-owned businesses in Southwestern Ontario. We hope that the U.S.- Canada virtual speakers and networking sessions will encourage young Canadian women to pursue entrepreneurship while strengthening the bilateral ties between Canada and the United States by engaging entrepreneurship centers on both sides of the Windsor-Detroit border.”
– Susan Crystal, U.S. Consul General, U.S, Consulate General in Toronto
