Meet Our Founders: CommuniCare

July 17, 2020in Blog 0 Comments

Company Name: CommuniCare
Founder: Sana Channar

  1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi, my name is Sana. I am a second-year Computer Networking student at St. Clair College. I am working on launching my first product which is called CommuniCare. When I joined Windsor’s first major Hackathon on March 27, 2020, one of the topics that we had to choose from was about COVID-19. We chose to do something beneficial for our community, and from that moment, we built our app. CommuniCare was the winner for the most practical and impactful solution for the 2020 WinHacks competition. Since the start of this pandemic, many people, especially the elderly were left stuck at home with no means to go out to get necessities, or else they would be at high risk. Our goal with this app was to provide the means for people to get the support they would otherwise not have during a pandemic.
  2. Tell us about your company
I grew up with a strong sense of community and the importance of caring for our neighbors. Many requests have been made to our local community center for delivery (grocery and medicine) help for our elderly and people at risk of leaving their houses. From this, we got our idea for CommuniCare. CommuniCare started as an emergency care app to assist those in the community that needed assistance; it later developed into a homecare management system for the elderly.
  3. How do you feel the RBC EPICentre Founders program will be beneficial to growing your company?
I do not have any business background, so the EPICentre’s Founders program is helping me with professional and experienced mentors to guide me through correct business practices. There are many resources that I can use and take advantage of. I believe that the Founders Program will help me take my idea to the next level and I hope that working with mentors will allow me to network with key partners in order to promote the adoption of our platform.
  4. Why do you feel it is important to have a company like yours in our community?
Current systems for homecare agencies are very outdated and inefficient which can cause a lot of time and money. This in turn can have a negative effect on elderly clients. Our system is here to make the process easier and more seamless as well as upturn the way homecare agencies organize themselves.
  5. Where do you hope to see yourself and your company by the end of this program?
By the end of the program, we plan to launch our platform with several agencies onboarding to test all functions. From there, we plan to market, outreach, and onboard more agencies and expand our business. We hope that our platform can provide peace of mind to agencies for them to focus their efforts on seniors.
