Connect For: Networking 101

June 20 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm

  • Networking is only for extroverts…
  • Networking is only necessary during a job search…
  • Networking events are for work, not fun….

If you struggle to network because of myths like these, this event is for you! Whether you’re a current student or recent graduate, a budding entrepreneur, or simply looking to expand your professional connections, this event is tailored specifically to beginners to learn the art of networking.

This event consists of two main components designed to cater to networking newbies. The first part entails a panel-style discussion, where experts will showcase various networking techniques and offer valuable insights to the attendees. This interactive session aims to equip participants with practical knowledge and strategies to excel in networking.

Following the engaging panel discussion, attendees will have the unique opportunity to put their newly acquired skills into practice during the open networking segment of the event. This hands-on experience will allow participants to engage with fellow attendees, establish connections, and apply the networking techniques discussed earlier.

Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be available for attendees. Please indicate any food restrictions on your ticket.

This event is intended for:

  • Any student from any faculty looking to learn more about networking best practices.
  • Students and community members looking for unique networking opportunities.

Meet our panelists:

  • Gail Robertson

Gail Robertson brings an unfamiliar and fresh outlook to the more traditional Manufacturing Industry! She has always been curious, which led her into journalism.
She began her professional career as a journalist at the Toronto Star, then moved on to the Windsor Star, where she used her innate curiosity to delve deep into news, features, entertainment, and human interest stories. In the fast-paced world of journalism, she developed the ability to ask any questions and the right ones!
This (recovering) journalist knows how to use curiosity to celebrate innovation – and turn obstacles into opportunities by helping to transform businesses for extraordinary results.
Curiosity is also the foundation of her 3 step process: Sign Up, Suit Up, and #ShowUP! She now uses storytelling (developed as a journalist) in her manufacturing world as a social media strategist and Keynote Speaker, helping others #ShowUP, tell their story, and exercise their Curious Brain! Her transferable skills have assisted her as she transitioned from being a journalist to bed-and-breakfast owner, to fundraiser, to Marketing Manager at an insurance tech company, and now, “Chief Curiosity Officer” at GailNow. She and many others have found that with curiosity, so much is possible: step out of your comfort zone, overcome fear, do things you’ve never done before, meet amazing people, and ShowUP with joy, passion, and enthusiasm. Gail is an energetic force with a bold and spirited attitude.

  • Ala Alam Falaki
Managing social media accounts has become crucial to business success in today’s digital age. However, the time-consuming nature of creating content, publishing posts, and measuring results can be overwhelming, especially for companies with limited resources. Recognizing these challenges, Ala Alam Falaki, a graduate of EPICentre’s 2022 RBC Founders Program and a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at the University of Windsor, has developed Socialization— a Handsfree social media management platform that simplifies social media management.
