Two of the University of Windsor EPICentre’s student startups, H&F Foods (http://www.hffoods.ca/index.html) and Amis (http://www.amistouring.com/), are heading to Halifax, Nova Scotia this Friday, March 10, to compete in Canada’s Business Model Competition.

Canada’s Business Model Competition (CBMC) is hosted by Launch Dal, a collaboration between the Norman Newman Centre for Entrepreneurship and Dalhousie University’s Rowe School of Business. It is also Canada’s official national qualifier competition for the International Business Model Competition. In this competition, participants will be judged based on how well they apply Customer Development / Lean Startup principles and using the business model canvas in validating their business model. Winners will share in $50,000 in cash and in-kind prizes sponsored by Deloitte Canada.

“Using the business model canvas has helped us in structuring our business. It tells us which avenue we should be taking to grow our business. This is great exposure for Amis. We are very excited to be part of the competition and the opportunity to see what’s out there in Halifax,” co-founders, Moaaz Elsayed and Sanah Malik say. Amis is an app-powered, on-demand tour guide service.

Entrepreneur Adrian Menzi, founder of H & F Foods, is looking forward to the opportunity to educate people on the benefits of eating healthy. “We want to tell people the benefits of eating organic and antibiotics, hormones or pesticides free meat; and of course, to meet other like-minded entrepreneurs from all across Canada,” says Menzi.

EPICentre is excited to have two student startups competing in the competition this year. “For the past three years, we only had one student startup competing in each of the years,” says Venture Start Director Wen Teoh. “I think more students are aware of this type of competition now, especially since EPICentre hosted its very first RBC EPIC Business Model Canvas Competition in November last year.”
