On April 30th and May 1st, the University of Windsor and EPICentre participated in the 13th annual OCE Discovery Conference, Canada’s leading innovation-to-commercialization gathering. According to their website, the event attracts “key players from industry, academia, government, the investment community as well as entrepreneurs and students” looking to create positive social change in the world through innovative technology.
Current EPICentre incubator members Sarjan and Printable Canada and past Founder from our 2017 Fall cohort Paw Print, were all stationed in the expansive Young Entrepreneurs Zone; an area dedicated to fresh faces of Canadian Technology. Also in attendance were our current incubator members Pep Co, Reminder liner and Cedar Valley Selections. Not only was the EPICentre represented well with some of our innovative founders, but the entire Windsor/Essex region took up a “corridor” featuring the University of Windsor, St.Clair College, WEtech Alliance, Canadian Mold Makers Association and Windsor Essex Economic Development. Stationed at the front of the event centre, all attendees were treated to the friendly faces of the YQG community as they entered the event.
Named Canada’s Best Trade show in 2010, 2011, 2016 and 2017, OCE Discovery did not disappoint the approximately 3,600 guests in attendance who were blown away by keynote speaker Sophia the Robot accompanied by her creator David Hanson of Hanson Robotics who appeared on stage to answer questions via hologram. With over 500 exciting displays, the event center was brimming with new and intriguing ideas from some of the most innovative minds in the world.
