EPICentre Program Provides Training for Canada’s Future CTO’s

February 1, 2021in News 0 Comments
Intellectual property (IP) is an important asset contributing to a company’s innovation and growth. Understanding how IP can be leveraged in business decisions is an important role for a Chief Technology/ Technical Officer (CTO). Funded by FedDev Ontario, the University of Windsor EPICentre is launching the NextGen CTO Program to train Canada’s future CTOs.
This five-week program is open to students from all faculties, as well as business owners and entrepreneurs in our community who want to learn more about leveraging IP in their projects and businesses.
“We hope this program will help students and entrepreneurs develop IP savviness that will give them a competitive advantage in their future careers or businesses,” said Wen Teoh, EPICentre Director.
The program combines an on-demand online course developed by the Centre for International Governance Innovation and weekly virtual meetings with expert speakers and panelists. The Foundations of IP Strategy online course used in this program was co-authored by Senior Fellows Karima Bawa and University of Windsor Law Professor Myra Tawfik.
“IP literacy is an essential skill for businesses competing in today’s innovation economy, regardless of whether we are talking about a small and medium enterprise or a large multinational. It is imperative that IP education programs be available across the entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem. especially for those who aspire to business leadership positions as Chief Technology or IP or Innovation Officers,” said Professor Myra Tawfik.
Participants who successfully complete the program will be issued micro-credential badges, a skills-based credential system that validates skills and accomplishments that can be acknowledged on their resumes, LinkedIn, and business webpages.
Applications for this program are officially open until February 21st, 2021.
