EPIC Female Entrepreneurs

September 9, 2020in News 0 Comments

With the launch of our second cohort of the EPIC VentureWomen program, the EPICentre team felt this would be the perfect time to introduce you to some of the EPIC Female Entrepreneurs within the YQG community. Every week leading up to the application deadline, we will be featuring local women who inspire us by paving their own path in the world of entrepreneurship.

Meet Dr. Nadia Al-Aasm, University of Windsor Bachelors of Science alum. Dr.Al-Aasm went on to attend The University of Detroit Mercy, School of Dentistry, graduating with a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2010. She spent nearly a decade practicing dentistry in Michigan where she has gained invaluable field experience that she now brings to the Windsor-Essex community. “I decided I wanted to go into Dental after shadowing a few dental offices in undergrad” said Dr. Al-Aasm, “I loved the fact that dentistry combines science with a large asset of art. I decided to open an office in 2016 when I realized I had my own vision for a dental offices and wanted to provide a new age experience to the dental world. I knew at that point that I had to follow my vision.”

As with any venture, opening up her practice Cabana Dental came with its own set of challenges. “The biggest challenge was that I decided to do a start up and at the time, I had a few people saying that it was a difficult task and better to buy or take over an office but I kept pursuing my vision and didn’t let them discourage me”.
So what advice does Dr. Al-Aasm have for anyone looking to launch their own startup? “Follow your vision, do your research, network and get peoples help or opinions but don’t let it sway from your vision.”
