EPIC Female Entrepreneurs

September 15, 2020in News 0 Comments

With the launch of our second cohort of the EPIC VentureWomen program, the EPICentre team felt this would be the perfect time to introduce you to some of the EPIC Female Entrepreneurs within the YQG community. Every week leading up to the application deadline, we will be featuring local women who inspire us by paving their own path in the world of entrepreneurship.

Meet Katie Stokes, founder of Blab Media. 11 years ago Blab was started to solve a problem. Katie had graduated with an Advertising diploma and was having a hard time finding a job she enjoyed. “I was working for a company and had teamed up with another employee to sell them on the benefits on social media marketing” said Katie “Once we saw what we could accomplish together, we decided to take the plunge and start our own business. We created our own dream jobs instead of waiting for someone else to offer us one.”

As with any venture, Katie had her own set of challenges to deal with “starting a business was a lot of work and it still is. The biggest challenge I faced right out the gate as a young female, was proving I had the education and the skills to get the job done. I had to work extra hard to sell my services and prove that I belonged in the room despite my age difference and work experience in the field.”
With the launch of the EPIC VentureWomen program, the EPICentre team was curious to know what advice Katie had for aspiring entrepreneurs. “A few pieces of advice: 1) Invest in your brand and your marketing. You could be the best at what you do but if people don’t know who you are, how to connect with you or why you’re better than your competitors, you’ll never succeed. 2) Don’t ever question your abilities or your worth. You don’t have to know all the answers right away. Take the leap and you’ll figure the rest out as you go.”
Ready to start your own business? Our EPIC VentureWomen program is aimed to provide tailored training and support for women changemakers looking to reimagine the future. EPICentre strives to build a more inclusive innovative ecosystem for women by providing female founders and co-founders the opportunity to explore their ideas, increase their entrepreneurial skills and know-how, expand their network and build a business that is future proof. This program is valued at over $7,500 and is 100% free of cost to all participants.
Now is your opportunity to build and test your ideas; click here to learn more about the program!
