The second biannual Biotechnology Entrepreneurship (BE) Symposium, hosted by the Masters of Medical Biotechnology Program (Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry) in partnership with EPICentre, took place on September 29th, 2017 at the University of Windsor.
The BE Symposium is geared towards students, entrepreneurs and biotechnology professionals who wished to develop their knowledge of the biotechnology industry and the journey from research innovation to a thriving business. This one-day symposium informed over 115 attendees about the journey from biotechnology to business while showcasing hot topics in the industry and guiding them to achieve their career goals. This year’s keynote address by Dr. Ken Massey, Senior Director of Venture Development at Wayne State University, showcased the journey for pharmaceutical companies.
A special feature of this year’s symposium focused on the Medical Marijuana field where a panel of legal, business, and science experts shared their thoughts, opinions, and knowledge about this new facet of the biotechnology industry. In addition, participants had an opportunity to interact with and participate in a ‘Grants & Funding’ panel discussion. They also received valuable information about biotechnology career opportunities.
