Theatre and Art Organizations: From Inception to Actual Business

Learn how theatres and other arts organizations develop from a first project into a full-fledged company with guest speaker Pat Bradley. The first session will detail a case study of the development of an arts organization, and the second will delve into the details of how public funding works, including tips and advice on writing grant applications.

About the Speaker:

Pat BradleyPat Bradley is the Theatre, Major Organizations and Compass Officer at the Ontario Arts Council and a course director in the Arts and Media MBA program of the Schulich School of Business. She was the founding chair of CADAC (Canadian Arts Data / Données sur les arts au Canada) and a founder of ArtsVote Toronto in the 90s.

She is a graduate of Concordia University (Joint B.A. – History & English) and York University (MBA, Schulich School of Business). As well as teaching at Schulich, she annually teaches at the National Theatre School, and has taught or been a guest lecturer at the University of Toronto, Brock University, George Brown College and Humber College. She also offers workshops and classes on arts management, cultural policy and applying for grants.

She has previously worked for national arts service organizations (Executive Director of PACT and PWAC) and government agencies (Ontario Ministry of Culture and the former Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto), and volunteered on boards of directors (President of both Canadian Conference of the Arts and 12 Alexander St; other boards include STAF and Arts York).

She is a member of the Ontario Nonprofit Network’s policy steering committee, and a member of the Not-for-Profit Advisory Committee of the Canadian Accounting Standards Board.
